The details
Every fact comes with what it means, so you don’t need to play to follow along.
What’s in the set
- Tiles
- 160
- American mahjong is played with 152 tiles. The other 8 are extras.
- Jokers
- Included
- Wild tiles that can stand in for others. American mahjong can’t be played without them.
- Blank tiles
- 6
- Plain spare tiles. Some groups use them in house-rule games.
- Flower tiles
- Not numbered
- The 8 flower tiles have no small numbers in the corner. Some players like numbers for sorting.
How they look
- Back
- White, solid
- The side the other players see. An even, solid color. It looks the same either way up, so a tile never shows upside down.
- Pictures
- Modern
- The style of the pictures on the tiles. New artwork in a fresh style.
- Theme
- Christmas
- What the artwork is about.
- Dragons
- Nutcracker pictures, no label
- Three kinds of dragon, one to go with each suit. No word is printed on them. The three are told apart by color.
- Joker pictures
- Sweater
- The picture on the joker tiles.
- 1 Bam
- Cardinal
- The first bamboo tile. Most brands draw it as a bird.
- Build
- 5 layers
- Made of 5 layers bonded together, which shows as stripes along the side.
